Other Worlds Catalog sees the Universe through the lens of speculative fiction.

SF isn’t realistic. It isn’t concerned with the world “as it is” or as it was five minutes ago. It imagines possibilities. What if we encountered other life? What if we invented something new? What if the past was different?

Each question generates a different reality, but not one of them reveals the absolute truth. The point was never to predict the future. Instead, with all of these experiments in hand, we can hold each one up to the light and see our own world differently. Hold several of them up and you get a kaleidoscope — refracting, dazzling possibilities.

And those possibilities bring hope, because they mean that nothing is inevitable. We encounter new ideas, new ideas make new people, and new people create new worlds that no one could have foreseen.

Other worlds are possible. At the Catalog, we explore them, compare them, evaluate them. We can imagine a better world, build it, find everything wrong with it, then go back to the Catalog, again and again until all the stars go out, or until we figure out how to turn them back on.
